Imagine stumbling upon a plant with the potential to not only change your world – but the whole world – for the better.
That’s exactly what happened to our co-founder, John Hammerton, when a business contact urged him to learn about the hemp plant.
John thought all cannabis plants were the same… and best avoided. But as he dug into the scientific research, he was astounded to discover hemp is a life-changing plant that:
We’ve made it part of our mission at Botany Bay Botanicals to introduce others to the wonderful world of hemp-based skincare. We want to share the many potential benefits of hemp oil – for people and for the planet.
Hemp and Marijuana are both part of the Cannabis plant family – but they are different varieties with different properties. Humans worldwide have made use of these plants for thousands of years.
In the last century Cannabis has acquired a poor reputation due to a specific cannabinoid (natural compound) – THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) known to cause intoxication. The tiny levels of THC in hemp are one crucial difference between the plants, and the oils produced from them:
Marijuana contains elevated levels of THC – the psychoactive compound associated with mind-altering experiences.
Medicinal Cannabis
Hemp Seed is naturally low in THC (under 0.3%), so neither the plant nor the hemp oil can make you feel ‘high’.
Hemp oil
Botany Bay Botanicals’ hemp plants are lovingly grown in the ancient volcanic soil unique to Wollumbin (Mt Warning) in northern New South Wales. Volcanic ash (Tephra) is nature’s fertiliser – it’s packed full of nutrients. Over time, these have been released into the soil that now sustains and nourishes our organic hemp plants in the Northern Rivers.
Hemp is a nutrient-rich plant that grows quickly – in around 4 months. It removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere at a greater rate than trees. And it needs around half the volume of water required to grow an equivalent cotton crop. Our hemp plants grow in low-density volcanic soil that stores water, so they use even less of our most precious resource.
Hemp plants are efficient at extracting nutrients from soil and help prevent soil erosion. They are self-sustaining plants, so there’s no need for pesticides, which means the local ecosystem is supported and preserved. We always harvest our hemp plants by hand to maintain the integrity of each plant, ensuring we preserve all of the goodness.
There are 400-600 powerful botanical ingredients such as antioxidants, essential vitamins and minerals plus over 85 cannabinoids found naturally in hemp oil. Thanks to a phenomenon called the entourage effect, these naturally occurring ingredients work in harmony to amplify the potential healing benefits of the oil.
Our skincare products contain pure hemp oil combined with natural botanicals. Nothing else! So, when you use Botany Bay Botanicals, you can be certain there are no harmful toxic chemicals or nano-particles present. We never compromise quality or your safety for profit. We believe the products absorbed into your skin, and therefore your body, should only contain natural ingredients that are effective and can enhance your wellbeing.
We use our own hemp plants in the infusion that makes our hemp oil. The process allows the natural transfer of all the active botanical elements from the plant into the oil. Unlike a CBD oil, our hemp oil contains most of the natural compounds that exist in the hemp plant. Every drop of oil your skin absorbs is bursting with the natural goodness of the plant.
Pure, natural hemp oil is just as nature intended with nothing added and nothing taken away. These are just a few of the nourishing botanicals found in every drop of all-natural hemp oil:
At Botany Bay Botanicals, we want to be a transparent voice in the hemp industry, so it’s important to talk about scientific research. Until recently, the laws around cannabis have made it hard to study hemp.
In the last few decades, numerous studies have examined the benefits of hemp and all-natural hemp oil for the skin, body and mind. The results are highly encouraging. But the process of scientific research is rigorous and takes time before it’s accepted as conclusive.
